$550 Tournament - Major Suckout Empty
PostSubject: $550 Tournament - Major Suckout   $550 Tournament - Major Suckout I_icon_minitimeMon Dec 06, 2010 10:17 am

This is an old post I have from my facebook page regarding a $500+50 tournament I had played on FTP a while back, and I figured I would share the experience with everybody.

Just keep this in mind this happened over 9 months ago shortly before the birth of my daughter (back when I had a ton of cash to burn... lol), but I figured it would be a good share...

Man, the last two nights have gotten me so frustrated with Full Tilt, I feel like I could throw the computer through the window...

Out of the last 100 tournaments I have played in, I'm currently sitting at 87% of making at LEAST the final 20% of the player pool. That's 87/100 tournaments! Doesn't mount to a hill of beans since I've only cashed in about 8 of them so far...

Tonight I think was finally the kicker for me in regards to this slump I seem to have been in over the last couple days. Last night I missed out on a HUGE chunk of change, and tonight I missed a shot at $125,000 by 289 players left, busting out two spots before being ITM in this tournament. Lately it just seems like cards on FTP are TOTALLY against me. So I took heed of their "responsible gaming" option and got off FTP for a week, which pissed me off two days later when I wanted to play again, but was probably a good idea, but ANYWAYS... LOL.

Take this hand, for example... (wish I'd have taken a screenshot for reference, but I was so pissed I instantly closed out of FTP and coincidently lit the filter on my cigarette by mistake... BUH).

9 handed
- UTG raises 4 big blinds (4000)
- Hands are folded to me on the button with Qs Qd, so I re-raise him to another 3 BB (7000) (I have tons of previous reads on this player, and he almost ALWAYS overbets when he has garbage, and I've eliminated him from 3 events already...)
- UTG instantly calls
- Flop comes: 7h, 3s, Qc
- As it sits, I DEFINITELY have the best hand (set of Q's, no flush options for UTG, closest he COULD have to me is either 2 pair, or possibly a gut-shot straight, or maybe 3 of a kind 3's or 7's, possibly my 4th Q, who knows... he plays cards all over the board).
- I place a bet for a little over 2/3 of the pot (12500 is pot, so I push in 9000).
- IMMEDIATELY UTG snap re-raises all in (his remaining 29,000 chips).
- Knowing that I without a doubt have the best hand possible with what's on the board at the time, with only two cards to come, I snap call and go all in (my remaining 26,000 chips), which puts me at risk of being eliminated if I get sucked out.
- UTG turns over showing: 7s, 3d
- I'm looking at my 3 Q's up against his two pair, and if EITHER of his single cards hit, I STILL have him beat (giving me a full house, either QQQ77, or QQQ33, which trumps his full house either way).
- Turn card: 3h
- I now have a full house (QQQ33) to his full house (33377). I'm almost 100% positive the hand is mine and I'll be up into first place from my winning hand... but then...
- River card: 3c

UTG has 4 of a kind (3333+ Q on board)
I muck out with a full house (QQQ33)

SIIICCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK. That's a horrible bad beat mate, especially at the stakes you were playing. I'd be well pissed off if that happened to me in a 20c game, don't mind a $550!

Yeah, after having Skylar that kinda changed my BR up a little bit. Right before she was born I unloaded a bankroll of almost 10k from my PS account. Didn't know what to expect, and glad I did because we ended up having some complications that insurance wouldn't flip the bill for.

When I first started playing online poker, I started with a bankroll of $600 initially, because I wanted to get that full bonus at PS. Over the course of a year I turned that into almost 10k, most of that coming from cash games. I rarely play MTTs, always been a cash game specialist, it's just where I'm best at. Anytime I've ever hit Vegas I cash at least no less than 2k. For some reason, online hates me.

... and this bad beat just shows that QQ's have ALWAYS hated me. Couldn't win back then with them, can't win with em now... lol
